Grade 8 Hex Head Cap Screws

If Grade 5 is not enough for the job, a Grade 8 fastener is the next choice, boasting 30,000 more psi in tensile strength capability than a Grade 5, these are used in tougher and more heavy duty industrial applications and are indicated by 6 radial lines on the head of the fastener. Applications can be similar to Grade 5; like automotive, refineries, and engines, but where there is a greater need for strength and better rust protection from a Zinc Yellow plating, which has a stronger corrosion resistance than a plain/clear zinc coating. These are also much stronger than stainless steel grade fasteners considering tensile strength, but not corrosion resistance. Grade 8 is similar to Metric class 10.9 in strength. Used with a wrench or socket in threaded holes, or with a lockwasher/flatwasher and hex nut. (~150,000psi minimum tensile strength)

A carriage bolt, coach bolt or round head square neck bolt is a form of bolt. It is distinguished from other bolts by its head: the shank of the bolt is circular for most of its length, as usual, but the portion immediately beneath the head is formed into a square section.
